Niche Site Keyword Sniping Income Projections

A lot of internet business guys -- make money online -- are discussing the benefits of niche sites to generate AdSense income.

Niche sites are small sites -- 5 to 10 pages, maybe a few more -- targeting just one keyword (key phrase).  These are in contrast to "flagship sites", "maxi-sites", or "mega-sites", which may have anywhere from scores of pages to thousands of pages.

The idea is that with a niche site, you can more easily get on the first SERP page -- even the #1 position -- for the keyword.

(You know that if you are not on the first SERP page, you might as well not even exist -- and that even on the first page, the #10 position gets a lot less visits than #1.)

A good niche site will receive a modest amount of traffic.  It will generate, hopefully, a modest AdSense income.  Since the amount of money generated per niche site is modest, you need many of them.  But, since each is only 5-10+ pages, that is not an insurmountable amount of work, work though it is.

In determining the subject of a niche site, you look for keywords that are only moderately competitive to rank for.  Too competitive, and it is difficult to get good ranking.  OTH, little competition keywords (key phrases) will likely generate minimal search traffic and minimal AdSense income.

The ideal niche site subjects you should choose, then, should have the characteristics of decent search volume and that are not overly competitive to rank for.  Looking for this ideal combination of search volume and competitiveness is called "keyword sniping".

It appears to me that there could be some AdSense money to be made using keyword sniping to set up some niche websites.  However, unless I am missing something, it doesn't look quite as lucrative as some have stated.  Just modestly lucrative.

Here's a couple of examples that lead me to that conclusion:

Courtney Tuttle looks for keywords searched for over 200 times a day (over 6,000 a month).

Jonathan Leger is looking for key phrases with 1,000 to 5,000 searches per month.

Now, if you have got good ranking, if you are #1 for the keyword, of those seeing your site in the #1 position, maybe 50% of the searchers will click through onto your site.  If you are not #1, maybe 10-25% at most will click onto your site.  (Keep in mind, ALL these numbers are speculative estimates.  Hard numbers are impossible to come by.  Your mileage WILL vary.)

Then, after they have gotten to your page, what then will be the possible click-through-rate (CTR) to the AdSense ads you have on your pages.  If your site, and the page in particular, is not optimized for the keyword, it will be less than 5%.  Let's say it is optimized so that you get a 5-10% CTR.

Then, what do you get paid per click?  If your site is not optimized for the keyword, you will get maybe $0.01 to $0.05 per click.

That is called "smart pricing" by Google.  If a searcher happens to click on an AdSense ad on a page not well optimized for the keyword, it is less likely to result in a SALE for the advertiser, so Google charges them less per click on those ads, which means YOU get less per click.

Now, assuming your page is optimized, you will get ads paying typically $0.25 to $0.40, sometimes even much more -- dollars -- per click.  I am assuming $0.25 to $0.40 as typical.

I've put all this in a table to see what your bottom-line AdSense income for your key phrase sniped niche blog or niche site could be.

Now, this is not "grand-theft" money, but if you can create sites paying towards the the high end of the range, and if you have a number of them, it could be a nice source of extra income.

          50 sites * $50/month = $2500/month = $30,000/year
          50 sites * $100/month = $5000/month = $60,000/year

As I said earlier, the keyword sniping niche websites have only 5-10+ pages.  Keep in mind, which I did not say earlier, that the subjects should be "evergreen".  That is, they should require minimal upkeep and maintenance.  With 50 sites, even one day of maintenance per site per year would require 50 days of maintenance per year.

Since the sites have only 5-10+ pages each, if you created one site per week for a year, at the end of the year, that income would add up.  Keep in mind that you might also hit the jackpot on one or more and make a few thousand dollars per month on each.

In addition to targeting (sniping) the keywords and optimizing your sites for them, you will need backlinks (incoming links) with your keywords (key phrases) in the anchor text.  See getting backlinks to discover the details.

A final note:  DO NOT USE THIS SITE AS AN EXAMPLE.  This site is NOT optimized as a niche site.  The subject area is too broad, and the competition is too fierce for good SERP ranking.  So, since you found it anyway, consider yourself lucky.
