3 Reasons Why Sales On My Ecommerce Site Stagnated!

Until recently I used to sell books through a reputable online book
portal.
However I decided to do away with the routine and got myself a
linkage to a new startup portal.
The results?
Less traffic, poor sales statistics, and even more disappointing
results from my server logs!
I wouldn't blame it on the popularity of the earlier site alone
though.
There were other reasons I discovered which were eating into my
profits.
1. The User Interface Hurdle
Today's users want instant gratification, are way too impatient to
want to learn anything new, and want things done fast -– especially
when it comes to online shopping.
When I was linking my books to the reputable book portal I was
getting plenty of sales every single day!
Later I found out that most users were conversant with the UI this
portal used, as it was such a popular brand.
On the other hand, when I switched to the startup portal, customers
had a tough time trying to understand how the interface
functioned.
Most customers just abandoned ny site before even proceeding to the
registration process.
They just did not have the time or the patience to sit and learn how
to use the new website interface.
2. Brand advantage
One of the other reasons I used to get more sales earlier was because
of the immense popularity and brand value of the first portal.
Most customers trusted this brand and knew that when they purchased
with this brand they would not be cheated.
They also had the knowledge that in spite of signing up with this
reputable portal they would not receive promotional offers in their
mailbox.
However, with the new startup portal it was a very different story.
Customers were apprehensive of being cheated of their money, they
were unsure about the safety of the payment gateways and weren’t sure
if they would be flooded with spam mails after signing up with this
new site!
3. Registering tonnes of information
My earlier vendor supported web wallet functionality.
That meant users could just bypass all that tedious registration
process with a click of a button.
The entire purchase process would get automated and would get
directed to a secure gateway.
No more filling out lengthy forms, no unnecessary information and no
wastage of time.
However, with the new startup portal things were different.
Being new and relatively 'outdated' as far as technology was
concerned, customers had to waste a lot of time registering
themselves with my site.
That in itself was a downer to any shopping or sales on my site!
Thankfully, now I’m back with my old vendor and sales have shot up
dramatically.
