If you e-mail occasionally to small e-mail lists that you manage yourself, the BEMM™ (Bulk e-Mail Mailing PHP Scripts) are for you.  I originally developed them for my own use and find them very useful.  It's likely you will, too.  My mailing lists are too large to be conveniently mailed to using an e-mail program (such as Mozilla Thunderbird) on my machine.  My lists are too small and used too infrequently for it to be economically feasible to use a mailing service (such as aweber.com).

How BEMM came about is that I have several e-mail lists, each with a few hundred to a thousand or so names each.  My hosting account limits me to 99 e-mails at a time, using the standard mailing method through an e-mail manager program on my computer.  That limitation meant that, for a typical mailing, I would have to break a list into several parts ("sub-lists").  Furthermore, I e-mail to the lists only occasionally.  This means that usually there are one or more e-mail addresses that turn out to have discontinued domain names.  That would bring the submission procedure to a screeching halt, and none of the e-mails would be sent.  I would have to correct the sub-list and then START OVER with that sub-list.  That could happen SEVERAL TIMES per sub-list, before the e-mails finally get sent.

I have the James Brausch Munius article directory PHP scripts installed on several of my sites.

Frankly, I don't know if they do me much good or not, but I am keeping them for the time being.

My questioning the value of the Munius article submission program derives from the fact that I have not gotten many good article submissions to my Munius article directories.  Probably 95% are porno spam.  To keep the article data directory under control, I offer the Munius Article Directory Data File Packing PHP Script program to accompany Munius whereby I, and you, can permanently delete all those spam articles after you reject them during article moderation.

Then there are all the spam comments.  That same script to delete spam articles and comments permanently from Munius Article Directories will permanently delete all those, also.

But, in thinking about those Munius comments, I made a few observations...

I have found that with Munius, there are some article submissions that I want to reject.  And I don't want them just flagged "rejected"; I want them deleted PERMANENTLY.  The Brausch supplied scripts allow you to accept or reject article submissions, but those rejected still remain in the data files.  Rejected submissions are not apparent to users, which is good.  But they are still there cluttering up your server directory.  More importantly, when you go to moderate submissions, they are still there, albeit marked "rejected" on the moderation page.  So you have to wade through the rejected articles -- possibly dozens, scores, or eventually even hundreds of them -- to review articles previously accepted or waiting for review...

Munius has turned out to be a worthless POS, so I am no longer offering the packing script for sale.  I no longer recommend using Munius.  It turns out that Munius causes too much trouble and causes too many problems for negligible, if not negative, results.  I am removing the Munius article directories from my sites.  [2009-03-02]

It is reputed that Google will penalize you if you have too many broken links on your sites.  As with all things Google, who outside of Google really knows?  But, it can't hurt to play it safe and clean up your sites, including resource directories.
